The Chapel adjoining the north wing of Haddo House was completed in the latter part of the nineteenth century by the 7th Earl and his wife Lady Ishbel, both of whom were passionate and profoundly charitable Christians. They commissioned the architectGeorge Edmund Street, who was responsible for the design of the Law Courts in London and the St Mary-on-the-Rock church in nearby Ellon. The organ was built by Willis and Co. and the chapel occasionally hosts organ recitals and other musical events.
It is rather unusual in being an ecumenical church, with preachers of all Christian denominations invited to give services.
Services are open to the public, and held every Sunday in August, and the first Sunday of every month between May and September, as well as on special calendar events such as Harvest Festival and Easter. Tea and coffee are served in the Library in Haddo House before every service, and again all are warmly encouraged to attend.
The Chapel also provides a magical venue for weddings, with the opportunity to continue celebrations in the House and gardens. Please contact the NTS for further details of their wedding packages by calling 0844 493 2179, or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
